Measuring impact

Measuring the impact of Better Work is critical. The IFC and ILO are designing a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation framework. Indicators include:

  • labour standards compliance;
  • productivity and quality performance;
  • economic data, such as employment, foreign direct investment, and exports; and
  • human and social development.


The framework will be used by Better Work to measure impact at the enterprise, industry, country and global levels. Each country project will include impact assessment studies. Building the business case for improving labour standards performance is an important part of the overall strategy.
