Future activities

The choice of future activities is important. Better Work programmes will adapt the global tools for use in different industries. These will then be made available through the global portal.

There are several criteria in choosing which industry and country to work in for the future. It is important that the industry:

• contributes to the Better Work global mix of different industries;
  
• significantly contributes to the country’s export earnings and GDP;
  
• has a potential market advantage in promoting compliance with labour standards;
  
• has a high number of women workers as direct beneficiaries;
  
• is labour intensive;
  
• has support from national government, employers’ and workers’ organizations and international buyers;
  
• fits with ILO and IFC strategic priorities and activities; and
  
• is sustainable, with a sound economic future.
