Better Work emphasizes practical improvements achieved through social dialogue at the enterprise and sectoral level. To facilitate this, Better Work uses STAR (Supply Chain Tracking of Assessments and Remediation), an online information management system that consolidates compliance and remediation data from each enterprise.

Through STAR, enterprises can share information on compliance and their improvement efforts with their buyers. This allows buyers to reduce their own auditing and redirect resources to fixing problems and finding sustainable solutions. The system also allows for meaningful industry comparison and analysis.

STAR supports:

• a self-assessment guidance tool prepared by the ILO on how to implement core international labour standards and national labour law

• access to compliance reports and data, using a subscription service on a secure Internet site, so that enterprises can share information with buyers, including progress reports and status updates

• a training services catalog, with services available for purchase by enterprises or by international buyers (using vouchers)

• an IT wizard that guides enterprises on how to set remediation priorities, consult with stakeholders, and design and implement an action plan

• data storage, performance benchmarking and monitoring of progress.
